Disintegration
Second solo exhibition/ Taylor Baker
“Disintegration” comes as Taylor Baker’s second solo exhibition in New York, presenting an entirely fresh body of work.
Previously, Baker worked primarily within sculpture & installation. Following the artist’s progression, we now present his introspection of prior mediums with the added consideration of painting. While reminiscent of his sculptural practice, his stylized paintings test the
limitations of each medium, his method, and the collaboration of both.
The break-down (or ‘disintegration’) of the common elements found in painting provide a tactile understanding of material. Baker uses this to aide in his approach to style. In this collection, he finely explores certain ideologies tied to both sculpture and painting; this leaves both the artist and viewers to question the respective mediums’ status & aura.
Taylor Baker is an American artist, currently living and working in New York City. After earning a BFA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of Visual Arts, Baker began a career driven by his interests in fine art, design, critical theory, and philosophy. His provoking work questions form and function, transforming everyday objects into elegant occurrences.
